Feeding the Soil
Hi, Friend!
Are you seeing signs of Spring where you are? People often talk about living in parts of the country that experience “four seasons” and imply that Austin doesn’t experience four seasons. It’s true that we don’t experience four seasons the way New England or the Midwest experience four seasons, but we truly do have four distinct seasons if you know how to look for them.
So we are officially entering our Spring season! When I go for my morning walks, I will experience an overwhelming smell of delicious sweetness. I will look up and see a tree completely covered with blossoms. And I can see the leaf buds popping out and starting to open up on our persimmon tree and fig trees.
It’s time to plant a Spring garden, although I try to hold these kinds of goals lightly to keep them feeling joyful rather than obligatory.
This Week’s Random Tidbits
Favorite Cookbook from the Library This Week: Mediterranean Dish. This book introduced me to the concept of mezze, which makes my heart happy. Mezze is about offering a constant flow of small, flavorful dishes as people sit around a joyful table to bask in each other’s company and to enjoy the present. I love the flavors and variety found within Mediterranean food (and it’s one of the few types of eating that is backed by longevity research).
